Sound familiar?

The signs your blood sugar needs attention

Blood sugar dysregulation doesn’t always show up on a test — often you feel it long before any numbers become concerning. These are the signals worth paying attention to:

📉

Energy crashes — particularly mid-morning or after lunch

🍫

Strong sugar or carbohydrate cravings, especially in the afternoon

😤

“Hanger” — irritability or anxiety when meals are delayed

😴

Feeling sleepy or foggy shortly after eating

⚖️

Difficulty losing weight despite eating well and exercising

🌙

Waking during the night — often around 2–3am

🩺

Pre-diabetes, elevated HbA1c, or type 2 diabetes diagnosis

🧠

Brain fog or difficulty concentrating, especially before meals

The good news: blood sugar balance is one of the most responsive areas of metabolic health to dietary change. Meaningful improvement is often noticeable within days to weeks — not months.

Where you might be at

Blood sugar support at every stage

Blood sugar isn’t just a concern for people with diabetes. Dysregulation sits on a spectrum — and the earlier you address it, the more room there is to shift things meaningfully. I work with people across this full range.

🔍

Curious & proactive

No diagnosis, but noticing energy crashes, cravings, or weight changes. Wanting to optimise before anything becomes a problem.

⚠️

Elevated risk

Family history of type 2 diabetes, overweight, or blood tests starting to trend in the wrong direction. The ideal time to act.

📋

Pre-diabetes

HbA1c in the pre-diabetic range. Research is clear that dietary change at this stage can prevent progression — and often reverse it.

💊

Type 2 diabetes

Managing type 2 diabetes alongside your medical team, and wanting evidence-based nutritional support to improve control and wellbeing.

The approach

A practical, evidence-based approach to blood sugar balance

Blood sugar management through nutrition is one of my core clinical areas. I’ve worked with clients at every stage of the spectrum — from people wanting to optimise energy, through to those managing type 2 diabetes and achieving results that have genuinely surprised their doctors.

The approach isn’t about eliminating carbohydrates or following a rigid eating plan. It’s about understanding how different foods affect your glucose response, and building a sustainable pattern of eating that keeps you in balance without making your life harder.

01

Food quality & composition

Not all carbohydrates affect blood sugar equally — and the combination of foods on your plate matters enormously. We build an eating pattern based on the evidence around glycaemic response, fibre, protein, and fat — in a way you can actually sustain.

02

Meal timing & structure

When you eat — and in what order — has a measurable effect on blood glucose. We look at the rhythm of your day, meal spacing, and simple structural changes that can smooth out the peaks and troughs without overhauling everything at once.

03

Movement & lifestyle factors

Exercise is one of the most effective tools for improving insulin sensitivity — and even a short walk after meals has meaningful effects on glucose response. We integrate practical movement strategies alongside the nutritional work.

04

Stress & sleep

Cortisol raises blood glucose. Poor sleep impairs insulin sensitivity. These aren’t peripheral factors — they’re central ones. We look at the full lifestyle picture, not just the food.

05

Targeted supplementation

Certain nutrients — magnesium, chromium, berberine, and others — have solid evidence behind them for supporting blood sugar regulation. Where appropriate, I’ll give you clear guidance on what’s worth considering and what to look for in NZ.

06

Working with your medical team

If you’re managing pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes under medical supervision, I work alongside your GP — not around them. Good communication between your care team gets you better outcomes.

Is this right for you?

Who I work with

Blood sugar support tends to work well for people who are motivated to make real dietary changes and want to understand the science behind what they’re doing. This is a particularly good fit if you are:

Experiencing energy crashes, cravings, or “hanger” that you suspect might be blood sugar related
Managing pre-diabetes and wanting to use nutrition to prevent it progressing — or reverse it
Living with type 2 diabetes and looking for evidence-based nutritional support alongside your GP’s care
Trying to lose weight but finding that standard advice isn’t working — blood sugar dysregulation is often part of why
Someone with a strong family history of diabetes wanting to be proactive about their metabolic health
Interested in understanding how your food choices directly affect how you feel — and wanting to use that knowledge practically

What to expect

What working with me looks like

Blood sugar work is precise and practical. From the first consultation, you’ll have a clear picture of what’s likely driving your symptoms — and a concrete plan for addressing it.

1

Free 15-minute discovery call

We talk through where you’re at — your symptoms, any relevant test results, what you’ve already tried — and work out whether my approach is a good fit for your situation.

2

In-depth initial consultation

We go through your full dietary pattern, health history, lifestyle, and any blood work in detail. I put together a personalised plan — specific to your glucose patterns, your schedule, and your goals — and explain the reasoning behind every part of it.

3

Ongoing support and monitoring

Blood sugar management is dynamic. We track how things are shifting, adjust your plan as needed, and celebrate the wins — including, for many clients, improvements that show up on their next blood test.

Luke is a wealth of knowledge if you are looking for nutrition advice. He cares deeply about helping as many people as he can with their nutrition journeys and is amazingly supportive as you navigate your new lifestyle. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and after a month my doctor was absolutely amazed at my blood test results after following Lukes advice. I could not recommend his Wellness Package more.
Update: Just wanted to let you know that your support was one of the main factors in sending my diabetes into remission! I went from 59 to 39 HbA1c in 2 and a half months.

After being diagnosed with pre-diabetes, Luke gave me advice that got my blood sugar level back under control. Thank you Luke, I feel so much better now.
